Summer is coming to an end, and with that comes some mixed feelings.  People can’t wait for the cooler temperatures, the beautiful Fall foliage, especially if you live in the beautiful areas of New Jersey/New York that boarder with the mountains, lakes, and forests…

For me, this time of the year is not a happy one at all. I have a difficult time transitioning to Fall, and I completely dislike the winter. I could be stuck in the Summer season all year along…

With all that said, I was very lucky to come across an amazing and well written article about depression in the International Journal of Professional Holistic Aromatherapy (JPHA).  Yes, I know, this is a strong “D” word, that so many avoid or deny, but I am honest with my feelings, and I know I get mildly depressed at this time of the year.   Unfortunately, I cannot share the article I found because the JPHA is not published online.  However, I was able to find a “sample” of their publication online which contains different information, but you can check it out how detailed and how beautiful it is written.  This link has information about my favorite Essential Oil (EO), Lavender:

http://uploads.documents.cimpress.io/v1/uploads/0c7d862e-0dba-42c9-89bc-791ec42d5419~110/original?tenant=vbu-digital

I won’t even dare to re-invent the wheel or copy and cite parts of their the nice article, but I’ll make it very simple… if you are with me and you don’t praise the “everything flavored pumpkin,” it’s time to start strengthening your emotions. While, a good massage would help wonders, and of course, I would recommend that… by adding the right EOs to your massage that would help even more!

You can also use other methods of application, besides massage, such as:

  1. Diffuser (car or home/office)
  2. Bath
  3. Foot soak
  4. Salt scrubs
  5. Personal inhalers
  6. Room sprays and linen sprays

For all of the above, or any other method of application, you should not venture to blend/mix the EOs yourself unless you have knowledge of the oils and safety precautions.  Never use oils undiluted in your skin and never ingest. Always consult with your doctor or a Clinical Certified Aromatherapist Practitioner (CCAP) about drug interactions. I suggest that you also ask your CCAP and doctor to chat if you already taking medications.

Here is a list of EOs that are very effective helping to mitigate depression:

  • Basil
  • Bergamot
  • Cedarwood
  • Clary Sage
  • Frankincense
  • Geranium
  • Lavender
  • Myrrh
  • Sandalwood
  • Sweet Orange
  • Ylang Ylang

There are others EOs, but these I have used and really experienced good results.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need more information about the Essential Oils or if you want to schedule a massage:www.massagebybertone.com
